Listen, Sing, Play
The most ideal age for a child to commence a music education is 4 years. At Adelaide Music World, our early learning courses are designed to teach children music by ear through meaningful experiences in a group environment. Our students are taught to sing both songs with lyrics and music examples using the solfege note system. Learning to sing their pieces in solfege means they are internalising the music. Therefore, when they are to play the piece on the keyboard or piano they are reproducing the known melody they have experienced through their voices. Learning music by ear for young children means they are learning music like they do a language. That’s why we use the process of, listen, sing, play.
Sound With Feeling
Music is an expressive art form that we hear. Instilling into a young child that music is sound with feeling is the most important gift we can give them as educators. Our group tuition music lessons follow our philosophy and provide the children with over 100 musical examples they sing and play in the first two years of their music education with us. Musical examples from Mozart, Beethoven, Schuman plus music of popular styles means our young students are exposed to music from all genres. Essentially, we are encouraging children to respond to music as a musician.
All Children Are Born Creatives
We believe all children are creative and musical. We also believe a music education is valuable for every child. Research has proven children who commence a music education in their developmental years benefit enormously academically and socially when taught in a group activity like our courses offer. The activities in our early learning courses are designed to teach students how to work with other children and play a specific role in an activity such as an ensemble piece of music. Observing other students performing in the group lesson brings valuable experiences that ultimately nurtures individuality. So team work skills and confidence are a big part of the early learning experience.
Skill Development
Our beginner music courses for young children not only provide them with a music education. Learning with other children means they develop confidence to work with others in a group and overcome the challenges sometimes that arise when team work is needed.
Concentration skills are also an important part of studying any subject. Our 45 minute group lessons are designed to build up a young child’s ability to focus and move from one activity to another without losing concentration.
Co-ordination is an important part of our human development. Our courses are design to develop a child’s motor skills and co-ordination through a variety of fun body percussion activities plus the developed abilities they face when learning to play with both hands.
Discipline of Practice
Children are expected to practice at home from the first lesson. We provide parents with advice on how to help their child with music practice and over time expand the expected practice routine to develop and have structure and consistency. Encouraging our young students and their parents to have weekly routines for practice means their music education becomes a valuable asset they can use in other areas such as school homework or other extra curricular activities.
Performing & Concerts
Our annual events calendar at Adelaide Music World provides performing opportunities for all of our students. We instil the joy of performing music for others into our students from the very beginning of their education. Our Music Festival annual event is specifically designed for our young students and has them performing on stage with their class group and teacher meaning they have support of their music friends. As our students progress through their music education we have a variety of concert formats to suit their musical interests.
